BEIJING, January 26 (TMTPOST) — Chinese tech giant Tencent’s cloud unit is planning to roll out a collection of digital arts on January 31 for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

The NFT (non-fungible token) collection titled “Digital City·Digital Collection for the Spring Festival” will consist of 20,220 pieces of NFT collectibles, according to Tencent Cloud. The collection centers around traditional Chinese culture and showcases the landmark architecture of 35 different cities in China. The 20,220 NFT collectibles are digital Chinese paper cutting that displays landmark buildings. It is said that the NFT collection represents Tencent Cloud’s dedication to helping Chinese cities go digital.

Each of the 35 cities that inspired the art design has 88 special collectibles, which will include a penguin character that symbolizes Tencent.

Unlike conventional NFT collectibles, Tencent Cloud’s “Digital City·Digital Collection for the Spring Festival” is entirely free. It is free for users to share, claim and verify the collectibles from the collection.  All the 20,220 NFT collectibles are non-tradable.

The collectibles are supported by Tencent Cloud’s blockchain Zhi Xin Chain. Users can verify the NFT collectibles on Zhi Xin Chain as each collectible has its own serial number and ownership information that cannot be modified or copied. Zhi Xin Chain’s verification ensures scarcity and digital ownership over the collectibles.

This is not the first time for Tencent to tap into the emerging NFT market. Tencent launched Huanhe, which is said to be China’s first NFT trading platform, as early as in August 2021. The first NFT collection on Huanhe was “13 Invitations”. The collection has 300 pieces of collectibles, selling at the price of 18 yuan each. Tencent’s music arm Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) started to test its NFT platform in August 2021. TME’s NFT platform is said to be the first music NFT platform in China, focusing on issuing digital albums and limited fan merchandise.
