BEIJING, February8 (TMTPOST)—The artificial intelligence (AI) frenzy spurred by ChatGPT is so hot that more and more Chinese tech giants follow suit.

News about Alibaba’s ChatGPT-like application labeled “pre-release” was circulated at Chinese social media on Wednesday. Alibaba is actually developing such product and it has entered into the stage of internal testing, an insider at the company later confirmed to Shanghai Securities Journal, the state-owned national newspaper. Name of the app has not been finalized yet, the person added.
The newspaper learned Tencent has acquired the ChatGPT-related technologies such as large AI models, machine learning algorithms and Natural language processing (NLP) tech. Its recent developments including updated Effidit, a writing assistant developed by Tencent AI Lab, and HunYuan-NLP-1T, a large AI model which understands Chinese better. The AI model has been applied to advertising, research and other Tencent's own offerings and served outside customers through Tencent Cloud.
NetEase’s education tech unit Youdao is likely to roll out product powered by the same technologies as ChatGPT, the newspaper also learned. Targeting online education, the relevant product is under development and Youdao will release its demo version as soon as possible, the paper cited the official at the company.
JD.com, one of the leading Chinese e-commerce giants, will continue to integrate the same ways and technologies as those empowers ChatGPT with own products and services to promote the AI industry, Xiaodong He, Vice President of Tech and President of AI Services & Products at JD, told another Chinese media outlet The Paper. He noted JD has a wide range of application scenarios and quality data. Taking Yanxi, JD Cloud's intelligent customer service system, for an instance, He said the system can update its algorithm in a timely manner for it has 10 million interactions with users every day.
A day before Alibaba’s upcoming AI app leaked, Baidu confirmed on Tuesday about launch of ChatGPT-style Ernie Bot, and said the AI-powered conversational bot is set to be available for the public when it ends internal testing in March.
