TMTPOST—TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has introduced a new software capable of generating videos from text prompts, joining the wave of Chinese tech companies entering the burgeoning market also targeted by OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

OpenAI's text-to-video model Sora, unveiled in February and not yet available to the public, has driven the rapid development of similar tools by Chinese firms, with several now offering user-accessible models.

Developed by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, Jimeng AI is now available for Chinese users on the Apple App Store, following its release on Android on July 31. The launch by ByteDance mirrors a trend of similar model releases in China in recent months.

Jimeng AI is designed for creative enthusiasts, allowing their imaginations to become a reality. The platform offers functions like AI image creation, video creation, and exploration of creative worlds.

Kuaishou, one of China's leading video apps, recently made its Kling AI text-to-video model available to a global audience. The beta version is accessible worldwide, requiring only an email address for registration. Additionally, Chinese AI startup Zhipu AI launched its video-generating model Ying last month, followed shortly by Shengshu's release of its Vidu app.

Faceu Technology operates by ByteDance’s Jianying business, renowned for its video editing app CapCut.

Jimeng AI offers subscription plans at 69 yuan ($9.65) per month for a year, 79 yuan for a single month, or 659 yuan annually. Each plan enables users to create approximately 2,050 images or 168 AI videos per month.

ByteDance has prioritized the development AI large models. Internal teams at Douyin and CapCut are also developing AI video model applications in a "horse race" mode, particularly with innovative technologies in long video and high-dynamic directions.
