Robot Maker Deep Robotics Completes Series B+ Funding Round

Deep Robotics launched its first quadruped robot, "Jueying," in early 2018. By the end of 2019, the company introduced the "Jueying X10," its first quadruped robot designed for industry-specific applications.

TMTPOST--Deep Robotics, a Hangzhou-based AI robotics company, has recently announced the completion of its Series B+ funding round.

The funds raised will be primarily used for new product development, continuous innovation in cutting-edge technologies, expansion in domestic and international markets, and the recruitment of top talents.

Founded in 2017 by a team of experts with over a decade of experience in legged robot research, Deep Robotics specializes in the research and development of quadruped robots.

Deep Robotics launched its first quadruped robot, "Jueying," in early 2018. By the end of 2019, the company introduced the "Jueying X10," its first quadruped robot designed for industry-specific applications.

This was followed by the release of the "Jueying X20" in June 2021, which featured an increased payload capacity of 20 kilograms. In March 2023, the company launched the "Jueying Lite3," and by October 2023, the "Jueying X30" was introduced.

The "Jueying" series of robots have been applied across various sectors, including security inspections, exploration, public rescue missions, tunnel and corridor inspections, metal smelting, construction surveying, and educational research.

The company’s robots were among the first to be used in earthquake disaster relief drills.

Deep Robotics is the world’s first intelligent quadruped robot enterprise focused on applications within the power inspection industry, according to its official website. It is also the first robot maker in China to achieve fully autonomous quadruped robot inspections at substations.

Currently, Deep Robotics has established long-term, in-depth collaborations with industry giants such as State Grid, Southern Power Grid, Baosteel, and Fluke.

"Leveraging our technical expertise, we develop products tailored to specific scenarios," said Zhu Qiuguo, the founder and CEO of Deep Robotics. He emphasized that finding appropriate application scenarios is crucial for the commercialization of both humanoid and quadruped robots.

The company is also pursuing opportunities within the AI-powered humanoid robot sector. In 2024, Deep Robotics launched the J80 and J100 robot joints, featuring ultra-high torque, industry-grade applications, and high protection levels, providing essential power for humanoid robots.

As part of its broader "Cloud Deep AI+ Plan," the company has integrated AI functionalities with its robotic software systems, enabling advanced capabilities such as parkour, mountain climbing, traction following, and material handling in extreme environments.

The future development roadmap includes enhancing the robots' perception, planning, decision-making, and human-machine collaboration capabilities.

AI and robotics are poised to revolutionize interactions between AI systems and the physical world, offering groundbreaking potential in both everyday life and industrial settings.

In industrial contexts, robots will have enhanced capabilities for analyzing and processing data from various sensors, including images, sounds, temperature, and air quality, thereby improving operational efficiency, precision, and reliability while reducing operational and maintenance costs.

Li Chao, a co-founder and CTO of Deep Robotics, highlighted that the core technologies underpinning both quadruped and humanoid robots share similarities in joint capabilities, control, operation, interaction, and perception, though each faces distinct challenges.

The AI and robotics sector continues to attract significant investment, with several companies securing substantial funding rounds in 2024. The global AI robotics market is projected to surpass $19 billion by 2024, up nearly 30% from 2023, and is expected to exceed $35 billion by 2030, according to the latest report by Statista.
