TMTPOST – RIVAI, a leader in RISC-V architecture, launched its Lingyu CPU processor in Shenzhen on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in China's tech development.

This is the nation's first fully self-developed high-performance RISC-V server chip, designed to support high-performance computing, all-flash storage, and large open-source language models like DeepSeek.

Tan Zhangxi, the founder and CEO of RIVAI, revealed that the Lingyu processor is based on the company's proprietary CPU core and on-chip network IP.

It features a "one core, dual architecture" design, with 32 general-purpose computing cores (CPU) and 8 specialized intelligent computing cores (LPU). This design optimizes tasks like inference for open-source large language models, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).

RIVAI claims that the Lingyu processor’s computational performance rivals that of major international server chips from Intel and AMD.

Zheng Quanshui, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, praised the launch as a technological breakthrough and a model of innovation from concept to industry application.

The global intelligent computing market is expected to reach $39 billion in 2024 and  $89 billion by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.8%. China's intelligent computing market is projected to surpass RMB 150 billion by 2028, growing at an annual rate of 21%. High-performance computing (HPC) is also forecast to exceed $40 billion, doubling by 2032.

RIVAI, founded in 2018, specializes in RISC-V-based processors. With 37 invention patents and a strong ecosystem of over 50 partners, including Lenovo and SenseTime, the company aims to expand its product offerings and drive the large-scale adoption of RISC-V server chips in China’s computing ecosystem.
